The issue 68 of LoSquaderno dedicated to the theme “Loop” includes a short piece by Lorenzo Tripodi. The paper examines participatory processes as “loops of cognitive loops” and presents Tesserae’s Frame4Change as a recursive action system similar to a music composition approach.
Dragoner Areal is a key area in the heart of Kreuzberg, one of the last plots available for development. It is the nucleus of a Regeneration area (Sanierungsgebiet Rathausblock) that was planned to be sold by the Institute for Federal Real Estate to private investors. It has been the object of a mobilisation of citizens against the privatisation, and after a series of controversial negotiation its property has been transferred to the Berlin government in 2019. Project models were planned and met with enthusiasm by both citizens and several stakeholders, collaborating to advance solutions that could foster social equality and ecological empowerment to the neighborhood. However, a recent sentence from the Berlin-Brandburg Tribunal has declared the reasons behind the transaction of the Dragoner Areal to the Berlin state as illegal. Therefore, the future of the place is still undecided.
This handbook is a result of the Erasmus plus project EduCity. It is directed at practitioners, educators, civil servants and engaged citizens who are active in processes of social inclusion and community empowerment in urban contexts. It aims at providing ideas and tools to exploit the neighbourhood as an active site for mutual learning, innovation and capacity building.
The Erasmus+ project Edu-City aims at promoting field educational experiences with a specific attention at deprived urban contexts where fragile adults are excluded from opportunities of inclusion, participation, learning and local resources valorisation. Tesserae contributes by coordinating the production of the handbook, providing specific training on participative methodologies, testing the the application of the method in the local lab in Berlin and organising ther final international conference.
UrbEX is an Erasmus plus project aimed at developing urban exploration as tool to engage and empower youths at risk of exclusion. Tesserae is lead partner and coordinator in the project, managing the partnership between five organisations in five different EU countries.
We are delivering the URBEX handbook of Urban Exploration and testing the handbook’s methodologies in Berlin within local labs. Finally in September 2023 we will also be organising the project’s final international conference.
The Asilo (The shelter) is a centre for independent production and sharing of art, managed by an informal open community. The building is owned by the City, but its management is devolved to the artist community through the innovative model of the “Usi Civici”, creating an experience of direct democracy and opening the way for the istitutional development of urban commons in Naples.
