Urban reconnaissance at Oxford Brookes

Concluding a one month secondment in Oxford in the frame of the Marie Curie RISE Cocreation project, on June 21-22 Lorenzo coordinated in collaboration with Sue Brownill and Ben Spencer a workshop at Brookes University introducing Tesserae’s toolset of participative methodologies to the researchers of the hosting Unversity. Following the exchange initiated in the workshop in Bath we examined the possible application of exercises of urban reconnaissance, onion mapping, urban memo and other participative techniques to facilitate the community involvement in the case study in Oxford and in the incoming workshop in Santa Marta, Rio de Janeiro. Researchers coming from a wide set of disciplines and approaches, including cultural studies, urban planning, sound artists and game designers, engaged in a short  “onion mapping” exercise around the Brookes campus, sketching a set of layers inspired by different UR exercises. On the second day we surveyed the Rose Hill community center to prepare the application of  collaborative mapping actions on the theme of mobility and segregation.
